One of the oldestbrickedbuildings of the early Baroque situated in Left-bank Ukraine. This stone five-domed cruciform building was constructedwith Cossack`s funds. The cathedral is known to be an adornment and architectural dominant of the old city. The current appearance of the building remained since its restoration in 1980-1986.

St. Nicholas Cathedral is one of the oldest bricked buildings of early Baroque situated in Left-bank Ukraine.This stone five-domed cruciform building was built with Cossack`s funds. The cathedral is known to be an adornment and architectural dominant of the old city. It is surrounded by an architectural ensemble of Cathedral square: a two-tier steeple with a small chapel(were not preserved), church trade pavilions and IoannPredtechas Church (now it is a local club of culture). The cathedral steeple bell weighing 400 poods was castin 1758 in the Nizhyn copper-smelting factory by Chernovy brothers. The temple was embellished by carved and gilded iconostasis, made by the artel of local craftsmen, especially by VasyliiReklynsyi. St. Nicholas Cathedral was on fire in 1754, 1773 and 1798, and was rebuilt in the second half of the XIX century, as a result lost the half of brick decoration and got a new form of the domes.
